How to read the map

  1. Fill every square with an elevation from 1 to 5
  2. Neighbors (up, down, left, right) can differ by at most 1. A jump of 2 or more is a cliff
  3. Every row and every column has exactly one summit: its highest value appears in only one square. The arrow at the end of a row or column turns green when its summit is unique and red when it isn't.
  4. Squares marked with a + are surveyed spot elevations and can't be changed. Each map has one solution.

Scoring

A perfect map is worth more on bigger grids: 1,000 points on 5×5, 1,500 on 6×6 and 3,000 on 8×8. The minimum is one move per empty square, the fewest a map can take. Each grid also has a par time: 5×5 1:00, 6×6 2:00, 8×8 5:00.

  • Each move over the minimum costs 5 points, on every grid size. Placing, erasing, changing and undoing all count as moves.
  • Each second over par time costs 1 point, on every grid size.
  • A finished map always scores at least 100 on 5×5, 150 on 6×6 and 300 on 8×8.

Each daily map can be played once. New maps arrive at midnight US Eastern time.

Sharing

Share turns your finished map into a grid of squares that shows how you got there without giving away any elevations.
